Strategic Business Unit: Wholesale

Strategic Business Unit: Wholesale

Crops naturally draw nutrients from the soil as they grow, and Agrium is in the business of helping growers replenish these soil nutrients to maintain soil fertility for generations to come.

Nutrients for Growth

All crops need nutrients to thrive and grow. The amount of each crop nutrient required to optimize crop yields depends on the type of soil, the crop being grown, weather conditions and the previous year’s yield. To meet the growing global demand, Agrium’s Wholesale unit produces and markets nitrogen, phosphate, potash and sulfate-based crop nutrients.

Nutrients applied at the right rate, time and place replenish the soils responsibly.

Nitrogen

Nitrogen (N) is crucial to plant nourishment and fundamental to life on the planet. It is a key component of chlorophyll, which gives plants their bright green color.

Phosphate

Phosphate (P) stimulates root development and flowering and encourages early crop development.

Potash

Potash (K) is required by crops to regulate growth processes, activate enzymes involved in plant growth and help protect crops from drought and disease.

Who Wholesale Sells To:

The primary end consumer for our Wholesale products is the agricultural market – in particular, growers of grains, oilseeds and other crops who want to enhance crop yields and quality. Approximately 15 percent of our sales in this unit come from industrial markets. For example, potash is used in the recycling of aluminum and phosphates are used as a retardant material to prevent the spread of forest fires. View a map of our production facilities.
