Business Strategies

Corporate Social Responsibility Strategies

Our corporate social responsibility strategies are geared toward creating value for our stakeholders while minimizing negative environmental impacts. Some strategies are general and affect much of our business, whereas other strategies are specifically directed at key elements of corporate responsibility.

Stakeholder engagement is at the heart of corporate responsibility. We strive to understand both what our stakeholders value and what they would like to see sustained so we can work together for the right outcomes.Moose

We believe that our strategies to invest across the value chain, diversify geographically, and achieve low wholesale costs benefit not only growers and shareholders, but communities and the environment too.

Management Approach:

The strategic management of corporate responsibility is shared among numerous corporate groups: Environment, Health, Safety and Security, Human Resources, Corporate Relations, Investor Relations and Legal, among others. These groups monitor best practices, develop policies and standards, and support business units. The daily management of sustainability commitments and implementation of programs is guided by business unit leaders.

Communities

We engage community leaders and residents, identifying what works well and opportunities for improvement. As communities are unique, so is our support of them. When we follow responsible practices we can multiply our positive impacts and minimize the negative.

Environment

  • Our Environment, Health and Safety Management System clearly defines expectations, requirements, practices and procedures. The Environment, Health, Safety and Security Committee of our Board help to direct and govern our environmental efforts.
  • Agrium actively participates in discussions and initiatives with governments and industry associations to improve its impacts on the environment.
  • We have developed a three-pronged emission reduction strategy, targeting:
    • Improvements in energy efficiency within our operations,
    • Carbon capture and storage, and,
    • Reduced emissions in agriculture.
